Somebody asked this, "My rug and furniture are covered in dog hair. We have tried laying an old blanket down and that helps some but most the hair is just embedded in the upholstery. Any tips on how to lift it?"
While the danger of this cannot be seen in the short term, pet hair entering respiratory system is responsible to bring many diseases especially to children and pregnant women.
Ashtma and allergy can be triggered because of this.
Apart from this danger, it might also bring germs and fleas. Gross!
How to face this nightmare?
There are several methods to win this battle:
Method 1. - Use Vacuum Cleaner
Use vacuum cleaner to suck the hairs off your upholstery.
This is the easiest and most common method known. However, some pet hairs are still embedded in the upholstery. Bottom line, it does not pick up the pet hairs completely especially in the hard-to-reach area.
Method 2. - Use Lint Roller
"What is lint roller?", you may ask.
A lint roller is one-sided adhesive paper roll on a cardboard or plastic barrel, mounted on a central spindle with an attached handle.
Another similar tools with the similar principle are sticky rubber glove, and the daily-thing duct tape.
This is the 2nd common method (but not as well-known as vacuum cleaner method) to get rid of dog or cat hairs from your furnitures.
Although this thing is cheap, you need to roll this item onto your upholstery again and again to remove the hairs almost completely.. yes, almost.
Method 3. - Use Dry Sponge
Martha Stewart mentions that you can also use a dry sponge purchased from a pet-supply store. (Under $10)
She says,
"Using the dry sponge, lightly wipe dog hair in a sweeping motion from upholstery. When using, make sure the sponge is dry. When you clean the sponge after use, wash with soap and water, and let it dry. You can also use a damp rag to pick up the hair. Make sure to ring out water from rag before using to prevent the upholstery from getting wet."
Well, so many things to do using this method, but it's worth to try.
